The candidate will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students with various identified disabilities in a variety of educational settings. Provide a flexible class environment favorable to learning and individual growth. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge sufficient for a solid foundation for higher grade education by each student’s abilities.
1. Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory
2. Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based on a variety of instructional techniques and technologies
3. Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests
4. Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the student’s Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system
5. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
6. Meet with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs
7. Confer with parents, administrators, teachers, social workers, and other professionals to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
8. Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings
9. Provide crisis intervention, as needed, for students in all classroom settings
10. Maintain accurate and complete student records in accordance with district policies and state requirements
11. Enforce administration policies and rules governing assigned students and class activities
12. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and student work time
13. Plan and facilitate class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from these opportunities
14. Participate cooperatively with the building principal or other administrator in activities providing for teacher performance evaluations and educator effectiveness in accordance with district policies and state requirements
15. Collaborate with other staff members on student achievement and instructional methods
16. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required
17. Perform administrative duties such as assisting in the school media center, hall and cafeteria monitoring, bus loading and unloading
18. Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests
19. Maintain a current education knowledge base through educator networks, educational workshops, and professional publications
20. Additional duties as deemed appropriate at the sole discretion of district leadership.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 3122 throughout his/her employment in the District.
