The School District of Rhinelander has a 1.0 FTE PreK-12 Reading Specialist position opening at the district level beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

Qualifications Include the Ability, Desire and Passion to:
• Master Degree in Reading
• Valid 317 license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• Experience teaching reading and/or as a reading specialist PreK-12
• Knowledge of Department of Public Instruction Title I requirements.
• Such alternatives to the above as the Board of Education and/or Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To:
Director of Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Performance Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and assist with articulation of the scope and sequence for a comprehensive reading curriculum in grades 4K-12.
• Be a resource person to classroom teachers, interventionists and coaches to implement the reading curriculum and maximize the use of existing materials and
resources in varied and innovative ways that enhance student learning.
• Develop and assist teachers and administrators with implementation of student evaluation and intervention procedures in a multi-level system of support.
• Evaluate reading intervention programs to determine effectiveness and appropriateness for specific contexts
• Assist with interpretation of formal and informal diagnostic test data that inform classroom instruction.
• Work with administrators to support, evaluate, and implement reading curriculum.
• Provide leadership and assist in conducting an annual reading program needs assessment.
• Assist with selection and administration of appropriate test instruments for assessing growth of students in the reading program.
• Administer diagnostic reading tests as needed.
• Assist with the interpretation of standardized test scores to staff, administrators, and the community.
• Provide leadership and assist in conducting ongoing progress monitoring data analysis for students in grades 4K-12.
• Coordinate the reading curriculum with other support services (i.e. Special Education, Title 1, Gifted & Talented, etc.) within the school district and the community.
• Assist with facilitating school-community communication and community involvement in the reading program.
• Assist the Director of Teaching, Learning, and Technology in planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating the Title I program.
• Coordinate the efforts of reading intervention and coaching personnel with the district reading program.
• Plan and facilitate training programs for new teachers in the area of literacy instruction and assessment.
• Design reading professional development activities to achieve specific goals and purposes.
• Serve as consultant to curriculum committees studying such areas as textbook readability, textbook selection, vocabulary development, and concept development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
