Job Goal:  As a member of the student services team, the school social worker is an advocate for educational equity, promotes the healthy development and well-being of the whole child, and is a leader for systemic change within their school community.


Qualifications:

  • Master degree in Social Work. 
  • Currently hold a Wisconsin School Social Worker certification.
  • Candidates should have a commitment to social justice and culturally and linguistically responsive practices.
  • Experience in AODA intervention/prevention preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  
  • Ability to make reasonable independent judgements and decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and able to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Reports to:  Director of Student Services


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Possess and utilize knowledge of state and federal laws and local school district policy related to school social work practice in order to enhance service delivery and to ensure informed practice. 
  2. Practice with an ethical decision making model including, but not limited to: maintaining healthy boundaries, maintaining confidentiality, and implementing evidence based practices and interventions with students, families, schools, and community.
  3. Advocate for social and economic justice, at multiple levels, in order to reduce barriers and promote learning.
  4. Advocate for culturally responsive and trauma-sensitive practices throughout multi-tiered systems of support in order to reduce the impact of risk factors.
  5. Advocate for and with students and their families in the home, school and community, challenging systemic barriers to improve student learning and outcomes. 
  6. Use individual, group, program, school-wide, as well as state and national data sources, to understand the larger issues affecting students in the school community to better advocate for students impacted by such issues.
  7. Utilize effective interventions by applying culturally responsive, trauma-sensitive, and evidence-based interventions that support student success within a multi-tiered system of support. 
  8. Engage students in using a variety of evidence-based strategies and techniques that emphasize student strengths and result in collaborative approaches to problem solving that build the skills of students to make healthy decisions.
  9. Serve as a member of the student support team, leading initiatives in truancy and AODA prevention. 
  10. Ability to direct and or plan initiatives and activities.
  11. Possess and utilize knowledge of resources and referral procedures within the school system and community agencies to match the needs of students and their families with services that lead to optimal learning environments for better student outcomes.
  12. Collaborate and consult with colleagues to improve student learning and outcomes.
  13. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively information with a variety of audiences. 
  14. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements:  

This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires  pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school offices/classrooms/passageways).
