Position Details
The Fall Creek Area School District is seeking a Full-Time Food Service Director beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. The Food Service Director is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of school food service for all participating schools under the jurisdiction of the School Food Authority. Duties of the Food Service Director generally include sanitation, food safety, nutrition, and menu planning, food production, facility layout and design, procurement, financial management, recordkeeping, program accountability, marketing, customer service, and personnel management. At least 8 hours of food safety training is required for all new Food Service Directors. The Food Service Director will also possess professional knowledge, ethics, and administrative skills in directing a comprehensive school food service program for the Fall Creek Area School District in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, local and state health ordinances, and Fall Creek Area School District's policies.
Objectives of the Food Service Director are as follows:
1. Supervise all school lunch personnel.
2. Follow guidelines of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
3. Receive, plan and prepare school lunch reports, menus, payroll time sheets and all food orders.
4. Assign substitute cooks and replacements.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan school lunch program.
2. Order food and supplies.
3. Develop and prepare menus.
4. Receive and review all bills and prepare them for further processing.
5. Prepare daily count sheets.
6. Assist with deliveries and storage placement.
7. Maintain inventories of commodities and other food.
8. Prepare necessary records for reports to local, state and federal entities. Assist in meal prep and serving.
9. Oversee food preparation and assist as necessary.
10. Oversee clean up and assist as necessary.
11. Assist in the selection of new food service personnel.
12. Supervise mobile meals and satellite operations.
13. Supervise daily food operation.
14. Attend DPI classes yearly.
15. Organize and plan in-service meals, staff recognition celebration, holiday celebration.
16. Coordinate yearly reviews for staff.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
The Fall Creek Area School District is located 9 minutes E of Eau Claire, on Hwy 12. The Fall Creek School District has 869 students in grades preK-12 served by 63 teachers, 45 support staff, 5.2 administrators and 5 School Board Members. The district serves 105 square miles. The Food Service Director must possess the following qualifications:
*Required: Working knowledge of large-scale food operation, ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs., menu planning, a variety of lunch preparation equipment, budgeting, ordering, finance and the supervision of personnel, proper state required certification.
*The following are Minimum Hiring Requirement for New Food Service Directors:
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field;
OR Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and a State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors. In Wisconsin this is the DPI School Nutrition GOALS Certificate (https://dpi.wi.gov/schoolnutrition/training/goal-oriented-achievement-learning-skills);
OR Associate’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field; and at least one year of relevant food service experience;
OR High school diploma (or GED) and three (3) years of relevant food service experience.
*Must have a Serv Safe for Managers Training and/or proof to obtain prior to start date.
*Desired: Food service experience, training in child nutrition, health and safety, experience in supervising others and computer experience (preferably a lunch cashier system and Microsoft office)
*Special: Ability to relate to people and ability to organize, plan and coordinate all phases of a school lunch program and work in a fast paced environment.
