Altoona High School is searching for a dynamic individual to join the Student Services Team in our district as a High School Counselor! This position will work side-by-side with another School Counselor to serve approximately 575 students in grades 9-12.
As a team, our School Counselors are responsible for providing equitable access to a comprehensive school counseling program for all students, focused on academic, personal/social, and career development. Services will be provided through the four counseling program components: guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support. The counselor will prepare all students and families for future readiness.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
-Develop and deliver a guidance curriculum focused on academic, personal/social, and career development that prepares all students for post-secondary opportunities.
-Provide counseling and services that incorporate culturally responsive practices.
-Provide responsive services to meet students’ immediate needs and/or concerns.
-Provide individual planning that guides students through ongoing activities to plan, monitor, and manage educational, personal, and career development.
-Provide system support to establish, maintain, and enhance the school environment.
-Support school district action steps through the use of relevant data, i.e. Multi-Level System of Supports (MLSS), positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Culturally Responsive Practices post-secondary readiness, etc.
-Respond to immediate student requests and crises.
-Collaborate with teachers and a wide variety of staff members to coordinate efforts to promote student success.
-Communicate with parents, District staff, and administration through a variety of means
-Participate on district teams for data analysis, staff development, selection of materials, and other committees.
-Keep accurate and complete records of curriculum, correspondence, and / or student progress.
Applicants with experience in Skyward, high school scheduling, course and career planning, scholarships, and Advanced Placement testing preferred but not required.
