The Project Active Citizen – PAC House has a part-time position available in Burlington, WI for a program aide to work with students enrolled in this program. This position is 28 hours per week (M, T, Th, F) and entails assisting young adults (ages 18-21) in adjusting to community life after high school.

Project Active Citizen is a partnership program between the Burlington Area School District and Waterford Union High School. The program operates at a residential house located in Burlington, WI to help transition students in becoming responsible citizens in the community. Throughout the school year, students participate in job training exercises to build their confidence and sense of responsibility. Students experience numerous community-based educational opportunities by visiting various employers and attractions in the SE Wisconsin area.

The Special Education Program Aide duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following functions/activities:
1. Understand the student’s IEP and follow all guidelines that are associated with the IEP
2. Collaborate with classroom and special education teachers and assistants
3. Assist teacher/therapist in preparing students for instruction/therapy.
4. Understand proper operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
5. Assist students with mobility.
6. Transport/accompany students to programs/services.
7. Monitoring students during transportation.
8. Assist in classroom management.
9. Providing behavior management throughout the student day
10. Record daily progress/charting, data collection, etc. for special education students.
11. Provide health-related personal care of special education students as trained and properly supervised.
12. Aid special education students with independent assignments/reinforce previous learning, etc.
13. Teach life skills and support opportunities for real world experiences
14. Monitor environment to aid in student’s ability to learn
15. Prepare and assist with meal time activities.
Candidates should have or be eligible for Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction certification licensure as a Special Education Program Aide or hold another current DPI educator license certification. In addition, this position requires a valid Wisconsin Driver License, NVCI Certification (training provided), First Aid and CPR certification (training provided), the ability to lift 50 lbs., and the ability to work with limited supervision and as part of a team in order to successfully carry out the job duties listed above. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
