Waukesha STEM Academy - Elementary Campus is hiring a part-time Instructional Assistant. We are seeking a professional individual with a passion for growing learners, and themselves, for a position with our team. Our school has strong ties to the community of Waukesha and our neighborhood as we support ALL learners in learning, growing and excelling every day. This position's hours are 5 days/week, 3.5 hours/day, and will involve both instructional assistance within the classroom, as well as lunch and/or recess supervision. We are seeking an individual with a passion for working with younger students.
SUMMARY: To collaboratively work with the classroom teacher to meet the diverse needs of students within the Kindergarten through Second Grade classrooms.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
•Work with individual students and small groups as directed by the classroom teacher that directly supports the needs of the given students.
•Given explicit direction from the classroom teacher, lead appropriate classroom activities.
•Complete other organizational and clerical tasks requested by the classroom teacher such as copying, cutting, or assistance with classroom projects.
•Assist the classroom teacher in reinforcing classroom guidelines and procedures.
•Ensure the safety of students.
•Supervise students in the lunch room and/or on the playground before/after lunch (if assigned).
•Enforce school rules in the lunch room, hallways and playground (if assigned).
•Assist students in obtaining lunch from the lunch lines (if assigned).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
•Must meet the educational requirements for highly qualified
•Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education equivalent to 48 credits OR have an Associates’ Degree OR have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•District and School policies and procedures
•Safety procedures within District and School
•Child development stages
•Approaches and strategies to positively engage and motivate students
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
•Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
•Ability to read and interpret documents and directions.
•Ability to communicate with students in a way which fosters the development of a positive self-image.
•Ability to exercise good judgment in dealings with students, parents, other staff and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
•Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
•Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
•Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
•Utilize problem-solving techniques in correcting and changing student behavior.
•Use discretion in handling confidential information about students.
•Model and reinforce positive behaviors which are expected of students.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical and work environment described is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

•The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
