Reports to: Operations Coordinator

The Wauwatosa School District (WSD) is seeking candidates interested in serving as an Operations Relief Worker for Buildings & Grounds.
Position Summary: The Operations Relief Worker performs varied work. This position focuses on performing custodial, maintenance and grounds work for the District. The tasks in this position tend to be seasonal in nature.

Essential Job Functions:
Grounds Keeping Maintenance
Mows or edges lawns, using power mowers or edgers
Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls
Clears sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways of debris and snow
Uses hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
Applies pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, and ticks
Applies fertilizer to ground to enhance growth
Tracks and delivers the mail throughout the District
Keeps grounds free of litter and organic debris
Installs and/or maintains rock gardens, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, and playground equipment.
Marks and paints natural or artificial turf fields with team logos or names before events
Performs seasonal and routine maintenance to athletic fields
Responds to emergency calls, as needed
Moves furniture, equipment, and athletic equipment
Assists with setting up and taking down concerts, conferences, and other events
Fills in for absent custodial staff in schools
General Maintenance
Assists in general maintenance of buildings and grounds
Makes minor equipment repairs
Tends lower pressure boilers
Operates heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems
Moves items within the District
Properly disposes of items
Custodial Maintenance
Maintains high standard of cleanliness in areas assigned.
Assists in meeting codes and regulations to provide a safe and healthy facility
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, seals, and waxes floors
Cleans and extracts carpets
Cleans and scrubs restrooms, classrooms, gymnasiums, common spaces, and other areas assigned
Secures buildings as directed
Responds to emergency situations as required
Professional Responsibilities
Plans, schedules, organizes, and coordinates tasks
Ensures implementation of District policies and guidelines
Participates in professional development activities
Provides necessary care and management of school property, including money, equipment, materials, and facilities
Follows District-wide safety and security protocols
Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District

Qualifications:
High school diploma
Associates degree in related field (preferred)
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
Basic technology skills, including ability to use Google Docs, Excel, Internet, email, and word processing software
Effective public and human relations skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work flexible work hours to accommodate the needs of the District
Ability to operate equipment, including vacuums, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, swing scrubbers, and other maintenance equipment
Ability to operate exterior equipment, including equipment used for cutting grass, snow removal, tree removal, bed maintenance, athletic field repairs and maintenance, and other outdoor tasks
Ability to read directions required for work performance
