The Wisconsin Virtual Academy, a public virtual charter school authorized by the McFarland School District and powered by Stride, K12 Inc. is looking for a dynamic, highly-motivated, organized candidate to fill a full-time High School Special Education Teacher position. Please note that this position is currently vacant. We are seeking candidates who are available to start as soon as possible. Candidates must have a passion for helping students be successful, be willing to collaborate, be adept at navigating multiple systems simultaneously and effectively, must be innovative and solution-oriented, and excited for the unique realities of an online schooling environment.
Position Overview:
Special education teachers provide specialized instruction to students with IEPs in order to meet the individualized needs of students. Teachers are be expected to manage and elevate the learning of students through various service delivery models. Special education teachers are expected to meet all deadlines related to IEP paperwork and write compliant, thorough IEPs aligned to student needs. This is primarily a work from home position with some travel. It is important that you are self-motivated, creative and passionate about meeting the needs of students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.
--Design and facilitate live synchronous instruction aligned to student's IEP, manage the learning process, and progress monitor;
--Collaborate with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students;
--Support parents as needs arise;
--Write compliant IEPs that meet deadlines and align with student data;
--Conduct efficient IEP meetings that meet student and parent needs;
--Initiate re-evaluation paperwork, conduct testing (when applicable) and hold re-evaluation meetings for students on your caseload;
--Prioritize analysis of student data to provide data-driven instruction and support;
--Build community by contributing events;
--Participate in online meetings and training as scheduled;
--Travel to and participate in Professional Development, in-person school events, state testing, and other events/meetings as needed;
--Orient students to their online environment, communicate requirements, set and enforce expectations, maintain open lines of communication, conduct instructional small group sessions;
--Co-teach, when appropriate, to ensure student success in the mainstream environment;
--Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support;
--Conduct re-evaluations when concerns about student performance and progress, and maintain regular contact with students and families;
--Develop positive and engaging relationships with students and parents;
--Work to ensure students on your caseload are successful and make progress towards IEP goals, objectives and course attainment;
--Be available to students, parents, and staff from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday - Friday or agreed upon hours; and
--Work from a professional home office environment, conducive to video and audio needs and a structured schedule.
Other Qualifications:
--Shared view of WIVA's mission;
--Strong content and subject-matter knowledge;
--An ability to support and guide adults as well as students;
--Knowledgeable in the application of databases utilized by K12/WIVA;
--Strong written and verbal communication skills;
--Organization and time-management skills;
--Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); and
--Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database (not required).
Other Considerations:
This position offers competitive healthcare, vision, dental, 401K, & bonuses. This position is not part of the Wisconsin Retirement System. A computer, second monitor, and supplies are provided.
