The Wisconsin Virtual Academy, a public virtual charter school authorized by the McFarland School District and powered by Stride K12 Inc, is looking for a highly-motivated and organized candidate to fulfill our full-time Family Resource Specialist position. Candidates must have strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, meet all deadlines, and must be adept at navigating multiple systems simultaneously and effectively. This is a work-from-home position, so it is essential that candidates are self-motivated and passionate about meeting the needs of our students and families. Position Overview: The Family Resource Specialist is a liaison who works collaboratively with staff, families, and community agencies to promote the educational success of students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness. The Family Resource Specialist identifies and assists families who qualify for services under the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act by reducing barriers to the enrollment process and providing access to resources and needed support. Duties and Responsibilities: Identification and Outreach: Identify students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness within the school through various means, including enrollment personnel, enrollment records, and staff referrals. Initiate immediate outreach efforts to confirm housing status and connect with students/families to remove barriers to enrollment. Advocacy and Support: Serve as an advocate for students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness. Provide information regarding resources and services, including housing, transportation, school supplies, and access to food. Facilitate communication between students, families, and school personnel to address barriers to learning. Collaboration with Community Agencies: Collaborate with local homeless shelters, social service agencies, and community agencies to coordinate housing assistance, access to healthcare and/or counseling services, and other essential services students and families experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness. Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and resources to students and families facing crisis situations, such as sudden displacement or emergencies. Staff Training: Conduct training sessions for school staff to raise awareness of homelessness and its impact on students’ educational achievement and outcomes. Educate school personnel regarding best practices for supporting students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness. Coordinate Internet Access: Develop and maintain internet access order form. Monitor form for new internet requests and order devices. Troubleshoot devices as needed. Disconnect devices when student enrollment ends or service is no longer required. Maintain contact with Verizon for account issues and services. Data Tracking and Reporting: Maintain accurate records regarding students experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness within student management systems.
