The Cedarburg School District seeks a caring and dedicated individual to perform the duties of a Special Education Aide (Paraprofessional) at Parkview Elementary School for the 2023-24 school year.
The schedule is 5.5 paid hours per day, Monday through Friday - 9:30 AM-3:30 PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
Interested candidates must be skilled at supporting/assisting students with disabilities so their physical, emotional and instructional needs are met and their disabilities can be effectively accommodated. Frequent bending & sitting on the floor is required as is the ability to lift students who need to be changed.
Essential skills include the ability to build positive rapport with students; follow teacher directed behavior management techniques; assist students in adaptive classes when necessary; communicate with teachers on individual student success or concerns; assist in meeting possible health needs of the students; assist in supervision of students during nonacademic activities such as lunch, field trips and assemblies; and reinforce appropriate social and communication skills determined by the teacher. Applicants must be skilled at using diplomacy, friendliness, tact and firmness to help students reach the District's high expectations. Key responsibilities associated with the position include, but are not limited to:
- assisting in providing students with disabilities access to, and engagement in, learning opportunities;
- working collaboratively with other team members to plan, prepare, and instruct students with disabilities;
- supervising, escorting and monitoring students within the school and community environments;
- assisting students with self-care, eating and personal hygiene, including toileting and bathroom needs, if needed;
- administering medication to students when the student’s IEP requires medication during the school day;
- transporting students in district vehicles as required by the IEP or educational program.

A High School Diploma is a minimum requirement. A Bachelor's or Associate's Degree is desired, but not required. The Department of Public Instruction Special Education Program Aide license is required and the District will facilitate the application process for that license and reimburse the cost.
