Position Summary:
The Communication and Marketing Specialist will assist the Communication team in the planning, improvement, and execution of ongoing operations, with special emphasis on content creation and digital communication. This role will strategize and brainstorm across departments and with schools to collectively produce strong creative communication and marketing pieces that “tell our story”. In collaboration with the Communication Director, this position will communicate with various stakeholders (e.g. district and school personnel, parents, students, public, media, etc.) through various mediums (e.g. printed publications, e-mails, website, newsletters, video, etc.) to promote the work of the district and ensure a positive brand image is represented in all communications.
Essential Functions:
Serve as district journalist and storyteller, highlighting the Oshkosh Area School District’s people, purpose and progress - responsible for writing and designing content with a focus on quality marketing and video storytelling and photography.
Provide marketing and communication support to departments, and schools.
Seek out photo and video opportunities and newsworthy stories in the district.
Brainstorm, create, design, review, and produce content for various District print and electronic publications including newsletters, mailers, flyers, and special projects.
Create and inspire two-way communication that connects and engages diverse audiences.
Ensure communications consider the cultural and linguistic diversity of the district.
Maintain and enhance the District website and social media presence; and support schools, departments, and programs in web and social media use.
Develop content, review analytics, and explore opportunities to expand the District’s social media presence and impact.
Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for executing digital communications in the OASD.
Represent the Communication team at events, including photography and video.
Assist with community engagement and outreach, incident response, and media relations.
Communicate with all stakeholders in an effective and timely manner.
Other Responsibilities:
Provide graphic design support.
Be knowledgeable about trends related to school districts and public education marketing strategies.
Utilize current technology tools efficiently, continually learning and updating skills as new technology develops.
Promote the District’s mission and advance the District’s professional image.
Implement strategies and meet timelines to accomplish organizational objectives.
Perform other specific job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field.
Experience or portfolio of work in communication and/or marketing-related field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate and interact effectively with various stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience with various social and new media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and podcasting.
Ability to initiate, multitask and complete multiple projects in a fast-paced setting and on deadline.
Creative and innovative thinker.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent customer service skills in working with students, families, staff, administrators, and the public.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
3-5 years of experience in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related experience.
Experience in videography (including filming, directing, and editing), podcast development, photography and graphic design.
Understanding of the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation components of communications plans.
Interviewing skills and knowledge of AP stylebook formatting.
Clear understanding of web and social media best practices, including how to implement them.
Ability to collect and interpret data, providing recommendations based on these insights.
Skill in the use of computer applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Google, and Canva.
Skill in the operation of digital cameras and video equipment.
