Description: Lake Geneva - Genoa City Union High School District is seeking a cross-categorical special education teacher at Badger High School. Qualifications: Has a Wisconsin special education teacher license for high school-aged students (cross-categorical license or comparable) Is knowledgeable about special education laws and processes, including IEPs, evaluations, and co-teaching strategies. Has excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families. Is interested in becoming a member of an innovative and collaborative learning community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide parents and staff with instructional and behavioral strategies to support students’ progress with IEPs in all educational settings. Ensuring the least restrictive, most appropriate educational program for all students. - Serve as a case manager and act as a resource on the instructional practices and methodology of the most effective teaching of students with disabilities. - Assist in planning and implementing inclusive educational and vocational programs. - Writing IEPs that support students meeting their goals in the mainstream classroom and in their vocational interest areas to support their transition after high school - Demonstrates effective problem-solving and progress monitoring techniques related to designing and implementing child-specific instruction and intervention strategies - Monitor children’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed - Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors, psychologists, speech therapists, and paraprofessionals) to create intervention plans - Other Duties as Assigned. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversations and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk at regular intervals throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
