We are currently accepting applications for an Art Teacher at Washington Middle School. This is for the 2023/2024 School Year. Appropriate DPI certification is required or applicant must be eligible to obtain appropriate Wisconsin DPI certification. This position fosters student creativity, critical thinking and discipline in the visual arts by encouraging social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Develops visual thinking in the areas of utilitarian design, visual communication, visual culture and fine art. Establishes a positive learning environment favorable to student growth and achievement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Instruction Planning/Delivery
1. Follows the designated art and design curriculum, scope and sequence, and coursework objectives
2. Lesson plans and writes daily, weekly and yearly plans that include standards based success criteria and learning targets
3. Maintains and organizes a functional classroom with attention to the storage of media, materials and student work
4. Selects appropriate lesson strategies to develop and deepen student understanding
5. Selects and introduces students to new art mediums, materials, styles and techniques
6. Incorporates 21st century learning into daily lessons with appropriate digital content, materials, media and technology
7. Provides appropriate and varied assessment of student learning in alignment with standards based grading
8. Differentiates and organizes instruction to take into account individual differences (i.e. capabilities, learning styles and pacing/scaffolding)
9. Maintains appropriate, accurate, and timely records
10. Schedules and supplements lessons with special events, field trips and/or guest speakers
11. Knowledge and experience with Google, Microsoft, Canva, Adobe and digital tools and applications related to graphic design
12. Promotes a positive learning environment favorable to independent learning and individual growth
Content Knowledge
1. Demonstrates knowledge in a variety of subject area(s) and/or areas of emphasis in the middle school curriculum

2. Demonstrates knowledge and organization in digital technology related to digital art coursework, media, and storage
3. Presents and exposes students to accurate, historical or current art movements/artists
4. Provides students with information on the real world application of art and design and importance of artistic expression
Assessment & Communication
1. Regularly selects and utilizes a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies
2. Systematically analyzes data to measure student performance to guide instructional delivery
3. Provides timely and constructive feedback to students
4. Collects and maintains a record of sufficient assessment data of student growth
5. Communicates with students, parents, administrators, school staff and/or special education team on individual student’s progress.
6. Communicates in an effective and timely manner with the visual arts department, middle school principal and visual arts department chairs Addressing Student Needs/Concerns
7. Obtains and seeks out pertinent information in regards to individual student needs related to IEP’s and/or behavior plans to foster student success
8. Communicates and/or meets with parents, administrators, and/or special education team regarding student academic or behavioral concerns
9. Identifies individual student needs that require further academic, physical, emotional, or social evaluation/referral for additional support
10. Expects high student achievement of all students

4. Leads or conducts building based student gallery exhibitions and collaborates with the visual arts department on annual Youth Art Series exhibit

Physical Demands
1. Physical requirements include frequent heavy lifting of upwards of 50 pounds (i.e.; boxes of clay)
