Green Bay Area Public Schools literacy coaches provide embedded professional learning opportunities in literacy instruction, including differentiation and assessment literacy. The literacy coaches have monthly professional learning opportunities at the district level to support this “train the trainer” model. Student Centered Coaching is the Green Bay Areal Public Schools literacy coach mode. This is an evidence-based coaching model that has literacy coaches collaborating with teachers to design instruction that targets student outcomes. This data driven approach increases the learning and efficacy of teachers, literacy coaches, and most importantly our students. Literacy coaches collaborate with building administration, pupil service personnel, teachers, and interventionists on data informed decisions around student progress in the universal setting and interventions. Literacy coaches partner with the building administrator and Building Leadership Team to review universal literacy data in order to determine and plan for professional learning needs for staff in the area of literacy. The school professional learning plan is submitted to the Director of Literacy in the Teaching and Learning Department. Named after the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., King Elementary School represents many of the same characteristics as the man himself represented: Mutual Respect, Appreciation, Safety and above all else, Learning.
