Day Custodian Summary: The Day Custodian is responsible for keeping the school clean and maintained during the day. The custodian performs custodial and minor maintenance work at their assigned site to support a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students and staff. Performs other related work as directed. Key responsibilities include: Cleaning assigned facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, cafeteria, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, attractive environment. Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, applying floor finish, and burnishing floor surfaces Vacuuming and cleaning carpets and mats in offices, classrooms, and areas as assigned Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, including stalls, fixtures (i.e. toilets, urinals, faucets, and sinks), mirrors, and dispensers Cleaning windows, doors, light fixtures, touchpoints (i.e. handles/door knobs, light switches, etc.), countertops, sinks, faucets, and drinking fountains Cleans and disinfects areas exposed to biohazards (feces, urine, vomit, blood, and other bodily fluids) Performs minor painting projects including preparation such as graffiti removal, door and window trims, and touch up. Maintains cleanliness of custodial closet in a safe and orderly manner Assisting in setting up breakfast in the morning for students in the cafeteria Cleans student and staff furniture, lockers, classrooms, and other assigned tasks during summer cleaning
The successful candidate will also have: High School diploma (or equivalent) Previous successful custodial experience, or equivalent Daily attendance and punctuality Ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted for the purpose of lifting equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks. Attending in-service training (e.g., instruction on blood-borne pathogens, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures. Ability to maintain positive relationships with young children, school staff, and parents Ability to demonstrate the organization and prioritization of job responsibilities as well as being flexible. Ability to proficiently communicate Ability to see tasks that need to be completed and take the initiative to start them. Ability to work successfully with interruptions. An exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately.
