Waterford Union High School is accepting applications for a full-time Library Media Assistant (40 hours/week with benefits). This is a school year position with some summer hours required. Job responsibilities will include assisting the Library Media Specialists in the operation of the high school library media center, which will include the supervision of students on a regular basis. In addition to possessing strong organizational and office skills, qualified candidates must be artistically creative and crafty, possess good oral and written communication skills, exhibit proficiency with Google Suite documents, and be technologically savvy in order to learn and remain current with a variety of library media equipment. WUHS is a public high school for grades 9-12 located in western Racine County in the southeast corner of Wisconsin, located 10 minutes off Highway I-43 and 35 minutes from downtown Milwaukee. WUHS offers a full range of courses, including dual enrollment and college prep, with fifteen Advanced Placement courses and nine Honors/Advanced courses. Overall, the graduation rate is 98%, with approximately 75% of graduates pursuing some education after high school. District boundaries encompass four separate K-8 school districts whose students transition to WUHS. The Library Assistant has the general responsibility of assisting the Library Media Specialist / Directory of Library Media in tasks associate with the smooth and efficient operation of the library media center and must be able to perform the following specific responsibilities: 1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the LMC director, administration, staff, students, parents, and general public 2. Work as part of a team to plan, develop, and execute library programming initiatives 3. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of school library functions 4. Work efficiently, complete tasks, and exercise flexibility in an interruptive work environment 5. Maintain high levels of organization for multiple tasks, varying materials, and numerous services 6. Perform related duties as needed in the following areas: A. Assist in the daily operation of the school library Library B. Regularly assist in the supervision and classroom management of students in the Library Media Center, library aides, and students in the Distance Learning Center and Computer Writing Lab C. Direct and assist substitute teachers in the Librarian's absence. D. Assit with coordination and execution of special events sponsored by the Library Media Center staff E. Perform a variety of clerical duties as may be requested or required F. Maintain communication processes including mail, phone messages, e-mail, bell schedule, and closure notifications G. Assist with the scheduling of library media center facility use H. Oversee and maintain inventory in the Wolverine Den school store. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
High School Diploma. Education beyond high school and library experience preferred, as well as the following qualifications: 1. Artistic creativity, craftiness, enthusiasm, initiative, and effective problem-solving strategies 2. A friendly, service-minded attitude towards staff and students and a passion for libraries and literacy 3. Ability to supervise and lead small and large groups of students in the library environment 4. Computer experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and publishing software and comfort working with and learning new technologies and media 5. Ability to utilize electronic mail, Google Suite, internet, and library catalog applications 6. Basic office skills including keyboarding, data entry, filing, organizing, publishing, editing 7. Ability to operate phone system, poster printer, laminating machine, copy machine, and other AV equipment 8. Effective oral and written communication skills 9. Ability to regularly manage and supervise students in an ever-changing environment 10. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information 11. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
