The Wisconsin Well Be's Consortium, a school-based mental health consortium comprised of four school districts including Rio Schools, has received funding through the Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant to increase counseling staff in our schools to meet the mental health needs of students while positively impacting the pipeline of school-based mental health professionals in Wisconsin. We are actively seeking graduate counseling students in year two or three of their graduate program to complete paid, full-time employment internships in our schools. Ideal candidates will be from diverse backgrounds and who want to learn more about working in rural school settings. Qualified candidates must have a passion for working with children, be reliable, effective communicator, and active learners. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. PAY AND BENEFITS: - $30 per hour for 37.5 hours per week during the duration of the school year - Select paid summer work days - Comprehensive benefits package that aligns with current school district policies - Up to $9,586 in tuition reimbursement for the year - Up to $248 per week in childcare or housing costs for up to 38 weeks (duration of school year). Little Adventures Early Learning Center is on site in Rio. - Paid participation in at least four professional conferences per school year. - Individual support from a site-based counselor supervisor. REQUIREMENTS: - Must have earned at least 12 graduate counseling credits prior to employment. - Must be a current graduate student enrolled in the school counselor program at either Mount Mary University, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, or Winona State University. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of a certified School Counselor, the School Counselor Intern provides individual and group guidance and counseling services to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of students. The School Counseling Intern is a full-time, one-year position for candidates. Applicants for the position should possess the skills, knowledge, and expertise to help support and develop students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development. The School Counseling Intern should be familiar with the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) National Model which is the State of Wisconsin’s preferred model of comprehensive school counseling practice. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the supervising School Counselor, the School Counselor Intern will: Provide a comprehensive school counseling program using the ASCA National Model Provide services that meet the needs of all learners and ensures equitable access, support, programming, and services to foster educational success for all students and to prepare students to be college, career and community ready Plan, prepare and deliver SEL classroom lessons to K-5 students utilizing the ASCA Model Mindsets and Behaviors for student competencies Collaborate and communicate with building and district-level staff, parents and other stakeholders involved in the student’s education and development as needed Provide individual and group counseling to students Maintain student confidentiality and follow all ethical guidelines per ASCA Standards Strive to maintain and improve professional and ethical competence standards as set forth by the ASCA National Model Attend all training or other Professional Development as recommended by the School Counseling Supervisor and/or Building Principal Attend all staff meetings, serve on committees, attend meetings related to student needs including but not limited to 504 or IEP meetings and student intervention planning meetings Maintain accurate, complete and correct documentation as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation Provide referrals for and assist families in accessing community services as needed Understand the requirements of being a Mandated Reporter and report all suspected child abuse and/or neglect to the School Counselor Building Supervisor or School Principal Complete internship and practicum experiences onsite Other duties as assigned ABOUT RIO COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Rio Community School District is located in Columbia County, about 30 miles north of Madison.
