Mineral Point Elementary School is searching for a highly-qualified classroom teacher, with the specific grade level to be determined later this spring. The preferred candidate will become part of an award-winning school. Faculty and staff pride themselves in offering a student-centered learning experience. We are constantly examining our curriculum to ensure appropriate levels of challenge supported by responsive instruction. We are looking for a highly-qualified candidate that possesses the following knowledge, skills, and dispositions: - A capacity to develop trust and foster positive relationships with students, with the goal of building a thriving classroom community. - A sense of self-awareness around one's current strengths and areas of growth in the field of education. - A desire to continuously grow in one's profession and share their knowledge to improve collective practice. - An ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff across departments and with different backgrounds. - Able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders through active listening and seeking first to understand. - A capacity to consider multiple perspectives on an educational issue and see merit in different positions. - A willingness to become a teacher leader in the building, helping make decisions around school priorities. - Can connect with students' families at a personal level while communicating a student's strengths and their needs from an asset-based approach. - Is committed to the Mineral Point Unified School District and to the community that we serve. The ideal candidate is a "warm demander", balancing high expectations with high support for each student in their classroom. *If you believe you are a good fit for this role, but fall a little short on some of these qualifications, we encourage you to go ahead and apply. We promise to go into more detail about the position if you are invited for an interview. Frequently Asked Questions: Question: What are my expected work hours? Answer: Official work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 3:45pm. That said, we know teaching is not an 8-4 type of profession. We encourage and expect faculty to simplify their instruction so they can have a personal life outside of school. For example, we have embraced the Optimal Learning Model (Routman, 2018). The goal is student independence and transfer. It best happens through less teaching and more time for students doing the learning. Question: What professional development do you offer teachers? Answer: Faculty have some latitude to select the professional learning they feel they need to advance in their craft. There is also schoolwide professional development planned for all faculty to ensure coherent instruction. Right now, we are implementing a new literacy curriculum resource. Teachers have engaged in both in-person and virtual professional learning sessions with external consultants. We also have an instructional coach on staff. Question: What curriculum resources do you use in the classroom? Curricular and instructional resources are selected based on a number of criteria including board policy, state standards, shared educational beliefs, and student academic outcomes. We believe the practices and resources we bring into the classroom should represent both our student body and the diverse communities we live in - locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. Regarding specific resources, we use Math Expressions for mathematics and Benchmark Advance for literacy. Question: What are the salary and benefits? Answer: Teachers with no experience in the 2022-2023 school year start at a base rate salary of $41,101. Compensation may be higher with years of experience and credentials. Benefits include the state retirement pension plus generous health insurance, including eye and dental. Faculty also can take advantage of a flex benefits plan to help pay for daycare, medical equipment, etc.
