Job Title: Speech Diagnostician (Early Childhood Speech and Language Diagnostician) FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Coordinator of Special Education and Student Support Supervises: N/A Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule Term of Employment: 10 months JOB SUMMARY The Early Childhood Speech and Language Diagnostician conducts Child Find activities for the Kenosha Unified School District by conducting evaluations of children ages 3-5 suspected of having disabilities. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education: a. Required – Master’s Degree in communication disorders 2. Certification: a. Required – Current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License in the area of Speech and Language Pathology 3. Experience: a. Required – Five (5) years’ experience in Speech and Language Therapy b. Preferred – Successful therapy experience at the early childhood level 4. Language: a. Required – English b. Preferred – English and Spanish ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Serve as the Local Education Agency representative as deemed necessary by administration. 2. Assess students as part of the IEP team process; serve as speech and language diagnostician for the IEP team process. 3. Collaborate with the Early Intervention Program (EIP) to conduct Transition Planning Conferences with children, their families, and EIP representatives. 4. Conduct developmental screenings of children ages 3 and 4. 5. Consult with teachers, principals, and special education personnel regarding the IEP placements of students with disabilities ages 3-5. 6. Report Early Childhood Outcome data to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 7. Develop Individual Education Plans for students found to have a disability. 8. Coordinate, conduct, and/or participate in professional development programs for early education special and general education staff, other district personnel, community, and parents. 9. Establish and maintain communication when appropriate with community agencies, pediatricians, physicians, etc. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff, students, medical and related service personnel 2. Effective and efficient time/task management skills including planning, managing and organizing 3. Knowledge of early childhood diagnostics 4. Demonstrate data analysis and reporting skills 5. Skill in using computer applications including Google and Microsoft Office, and KUSD specific software applications 6. Demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior 7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information 8. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing 9. Ability to display proactive behavior through initiative, decisiveness and the ability to work independently 10. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to facilitate effective meetings and promote cooperation and communication among each group PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time; occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; consistently and repetitively operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machine and/or computer printer; regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information with administration, staff, and the public. Occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions consistently and to the satisfaction of the employer.
