Position Title: School Social Worker Reports To: Director of Student Services, Building Principal, Superintendent Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Social Work with DPI license #50 Supervises: NA Job Goal: School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, positive behavioral support, academic and classroom support. They provide professional, legal, and ethical consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators on mental health-related topics and community supports. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -Advocating for student services and students’ best interests. -Providing crisis management services, including assessing for safety. -Conducting developmental histories as a member of IEP teams. -Facilitates individual and group supports around issues such as understanding and accepting self, developing appropriate social interaction skills, anxiety, coping skills, self-regulation, and other pertinent issues as assigned. -Manages student data and respects the confidentiality of student and family information. -Providing case management services including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources, and collaboration with other professionals. -Providing training and workshops, as needed, to teachers, school staff, and parents. -Conducting home visits with other building staff. -Contributing to a multidisciplinary school team for students with IEPs, 504s, and history of trauma (County caseworkers, HHS, DCF, CCS therapists). -Develop a partnership with community agencies that establishes processes and protocols for inter-agency communication, referrals, and assistance for district students. -Develop a means to provide parents with information about access to district and community resources, as well as information and activities to help their children build resilience. -Notify all school district personnel of the process for referring students for mental health services to school-based mental health providers or community mental health providers. -Serve as a resource for District families, including assisting our homeless families with accessing resources and assisting with determining needs. -Other Duties as Assigned. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversations and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk at regular intervals throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
