Duties of Position: Primarily work with special education students and regular education students. Provide academic, physical, medical and social support for students. Must be able to physically handle the student when necessary, including restraints, transfers and lifts. May include working in the classroom, the special education room, or other educational environment in the school. Must be able to assist in developing and carrying out very specific and detailed individualized programs for the children. Special Skills/Education Required: Prefer experience working with autistic students or students with highly developed behavior modification programs and knowledge of reading, mathematics and social skills instruction. Must be willing to attend training and workshops as deemed appropriate. Must be able to physically restrain and transport children as necessary. Must be eligible for licensing by the Department of Public Instruction. Student confidentiality is a must. Salary Placement: per Employee Handbook ($16.52/hour) Additional Comments: Must be student centered, reliable and flexible to best meet the needs of the students. Must be able to accept direction from several people. Must be able to respect and carry out the mission and vision of the Sparta Area School District as well as the priorities and decree of conduct at Herrman Elementary School.
