The School District of South Milwaukee is seeking a health room aide for 7.5 hours per day. The position is located at the high school. The health paraprofessional works with the nurse located on campus. Under the direction and supervision of the licensed registered nurse, this position recognizes and meets basic student needs in routine, non-complex nursing situations; assists the registered nurse in the delivery of school health programs; implements care as supervised by the registered nurse; functions as an assistant to the RN in more complex nursing care situations; participates in evaluation of care; monitors student health care plans; and assists with student monitoring and supervision as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE A four-year Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree is preferred. The health room Paraprofessional Aide must have a minimum of a high school diploma and relevant experience. Certifications in First Aid and CPR/AED are required for the position. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to speak effectively and respond to questions from parents, other employees, administrators and school board members. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Reading and writing in English and phonics and basic reading principles. Knowledge of languages in addition to English is preferred. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and members of the community; Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication; Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board policies. General concepts presented in preK-12 curriculum. Practical learning patterns and behavior. Basic concepts of child development and of the respective behavior characteristics. General needs and behavior of students with learning disabilities. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
