Overview Along with a deep commitment to equity, the Shorewood School District is known for its distinctive academic, arts and authentic learning experiences that prepare students for living in a changing global society. The District’s two elementary schools, intermediate school, and one high school which has an additional, small charter school, serve a diverse community and more than 1,900 students. The District is seeking a visionary, student-centered, and equity-focused educational leader to serve as Principal of Shorewood Intermediate School, a learning community that serves approximately 300 students in grades 7-8 with a well-embraced school culture that focuses on the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students. The Principal facilitates a healthy, safe and inclusive school community that is committed to meeting the district mission of equity, growth, and excellence for all. The Shorewood Intermediate School Principal is responsible for oversight of all school functions, before, during and after the school day, for providing leadership and direction to school staff, and for working in collaboration with other District leaders to ensure that the Intermediate School’s educational programs and services meet student needs and the standards established by the Superintendent and School Board. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Work collaboratively to advocate for students by working with all staff to identify and address SIS student needs; Partner with faculty, specialists and others to design, implement and monitor culturally-responsive teaching and learning to ensure effective delivery of standards-based curriculum to all students; Work collaboratively with staff to identify student needs and to design, revise and monitor instruction to ensure effective delivery of the guaranteed and viable standards-based curriculum; Analyze academic achievement data and instructional strategies to make appropriate educational decisions that improve classroom instruction, individual student growth and overall school performance; Develop and administer equity professional development and plans with staff to support an improved sense of belonging and academic achievement for all students, particularly those who are historically marginalized; Model and collaboratively promote rigorous expectations, mutual respect, concern and empathy for the community, students, families/caregivers and District personnel; Collaborate with the community, students, families/caregivers and District personnel to create, sustain and promote a positive, safe and healthy learning environment; Connect District strategic priorities such as EMLSS, District-wide equity training and systems work, curriculum mapping and standards alignment and others - to building-level initiatives and grade-specific strategies to maximize academic growth and social-emotional development for all SIS students; Model and demonstrate integrity, rigorous expectations for confidentiality, mutual respect, and empathy for students, families/caregivers, and colleagues Manage educator evaluation and other systems work to build staff capacity, skills and experience, and utilize evaluation tools and student learning objectives to measure progress toward individual, classroom and building goals Work with students, families/caregivers, and colleagues to create, sustain and promote a positive, safe and healthy learning environment; Develop and communicate long and short term goals, the school improvement plan and other information to all stakeholders through multiple channels and sources in a clear, effective and appropriate manner; Administer personnel procedures and policies in accordance with the District’s employee handbooks, appendices and policies and in compliance with relevant statutes, and manage SIS personnel functions including: hiring, supervision, evaluation, coaching and disciplinary action, as needed, for all employee groups; Implement and monitor a school safety plan in collaboration with the District Safety Officer and community partners, enforce the Student Code of Conduct and District policies that govern student health and welfare, and participate in the administrative and operational functions of the District, as needed; Plan and facilitate staff meetings and professional development activities; Perform personnel functions including: hire, supervise, evaluate and coach direct report staff for full time, part time and seasonal employees; Serve on the District Administrative Council; and Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
