Library Assistant Position Summary
We are seeking to fill a Library Assistant position at Jr/Sr High School. This position requires the ability to work independently on assigned tasks from the Library Media Specialist/principal. It is a 7.5 hours per day, school year position.
General Overview of Library Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in maintaining an up-to-date catalog and circulation system.
- Assists in processing new library acquisitions and weeding outdated library materials.
- Keeps the library media center organized, clean, neat, and welcoming to visitors.
- Prepares bulletin boards, displays, bibliographies, etc. on a regular basis.
- Communicate regularly with staff on new materials.
- Pulls books and other materials per teacher request for use in the classroom.
- Helps students and faculty locate materials through the use of the automated catalog and electronic resources.
- Assists in finding and verifying bibliographic information.
- Monitors students while using the library.
- Sorts and shelves books, issues and receives library materials; records identifying data in DESTINY, inspects returned books, computes and receives fines.
- Arranges for interlibrary loans and maintains appropriate interlibrary loan records and reports.
- Supervises and executes inventory.
- Maintains a friendly and helpful atmosphere for students and faculty.
- Assist with students' chromebooks when IT is not available.
- Performs any other related duties that the Library Media Specialist may assign.
- Explains to teachers and students how to use the websites on the library home page (ex. Sweet Search, Science Flix, True Flix, etc).
- Assists with supervision duties as assigned by the principal.
