Cooper Elementary: part-time position 11:45am - 6:00pm Monday-Friday
Waller Elementary: full-time position/estimated hours: 8:00am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday
Essential Functions:
• with direction of licensed staff in a manner consistent with requirements of law, rules and regulations, and District policies and procedures.
• Create a positive, safe, and healthy environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
• Serve as a positive role model.
• Serve as liaison between classroom teacher and special education teacher.
• Assist in modifying the learning environment to manage behavior.
• Interact with students in a manner that reflects knowledge of similarities and differences associated with disabilities and cultural diversity.
• Use appropriate strategies and techniques to increase students’ self-esteem, self-awareness, self-control, self-reliance, and self-advocacy
• Use developmentally and age-appropriate strategies, equipment, materials, and assistive technologies, as directed, to accomplish instructional objectives.
• Collect and provide objective accurate information to evaluators, consult with teacher(s) and case worker(s) regarding student behavior.
• Assist in adapting instructional strategies and materials according to direction.
• As directed, prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning.
• Support certified personnel by assisting with the academic instruction of individual or small groups of students to reinforce and follow-up learning activity.
• Repeat directions and check on student’s understanding of assignment requirements.
• Supervise and assist students with instructional technology.
• Assist students with personal hygiene skills such as toileting, diapering, feeding, hand washing, hair combing, clothes adjusting, if needed.
• Assist students by gathering needed materials (books, folders, etc) from lockers.
• Place, lift, and position students in standers or walkers, if needed.
• Perform other related duties as delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
• Attend team meetings, as required.

Qualifications:
• Associate's Degree or 48+ college credits
• Valid certification or eligibility for position as established by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) - Special Education Program Aide License

Essential Physical / Mental Requirements*:
This job is classified as medium physical work but depending on the assignment could be medium/heavy. This job primarily involves walking and bending/stooping with occasional sitting and standing. Twisting, squatting/crouching, kneeling, and pushing exerting forces up to 30 pounds are frequently performed. Crawling, reaching overhead, and pulling force up to 30 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds are occasionally performed. Verbal and auditory communications are frequently involved. Near and far vision, depth perception, and field of vision are frequently utilized. Handling with both hands is frequent.

• interact with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior
• commute to all BASD buildings for support
• complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm
• maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and detail
• assist with cafeteria, cleanup, laundry and playground duties, if needed
