Grades 6-8 ELA Teacher
The Intermediate School ELA teacher works closely with the Reading Specialist, Reading Teacher, and K-5 ELA teachers in order to ensure effective instruction targeting English Language Arts through both reading and writing. HNR's approach is that of the workshop model, where students collaborate with each other and the teacher in order to learn and grow together. The adopted curricula are the Reader's and Writer's Workshop units of study put out by The Teachers College and developed by Lucy Calkins.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Sixth through Eighth Grade ELA Teacher provides a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. The Teacher collaboratively plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum for enrolled children and ensures quality, comprehensive child development services including education, health, nutrition, parent involvement, and necessary family support services and referrals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in K-8 Education
Successfully passes statutory background checks
Successfully passes a physical examination upon hiring
Successfully completes a TB test or TB disclosure sheet upon hiring
Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and be able to relate well to children, families, staff, and HNR communities.
Demonstrates effective listening, oral, and written communication skills
Such alternatives to listed qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate, acceptable, and applicable to job assignments
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a classroom teacher
Experience with Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Curricula
ESSENTIAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes a Safe and Healthy Environment.
Ensures children are closely supervised at all times.
Maintains accurate attendance / tracking records at all times.
Ensures the classroom is maintained in a safe, clean, orderly condition, and notifies appropriate school personnel of issues in need of address.
Sanitary conditions are maintained at all times and performs routine sanitization as required.
Effectively Plans for Developmentally Appropriate Student Outcomes
Implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum that reflects observations and assessments of individual children and goals.
Participates in the curriculum planning meetings.
Plans and implements child-directed, child-initiated activities.
Accurately documents and communicates children’s progress and performance.
