The Kewaskum School District has an opening for a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist special education students. We are seeking a team member who is able to form positive relationships and meet the academic and behavioral needs of students with disabilities while supporting the independence and inclusion of all children. Under direct supervision of a special education and/or regular education classroom teacher, a Paraprofessional provides assistance to students performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students with various disabilities in an educational setting. This individual may also work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. This position is part-time, Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 3:45 pm, when school is in session. Primary responsibilities for this position include supporting students in general and special education environments by promoting independence and providing the least intrusive level of support appropriate to the academic and social-emotional needs of students. Using knowledge of a student’s strengths and interests to encourage engagement in school learning and activities. Demonstrating proficiency in academics appropriate to the assignment and effectively make adjustments, modifications, and adaptations that have been communicated by the teacher and documented through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. Using positive behavioral supports to maintain a student’s dignity and demonstrate an understanding of the communicative intents of behaviors. Tracking IEP goals and gathering data to drive programming, which requires a detailed, organized, flexible staff member that can adjust to changes in assignments based on student performance. A successful candidate will maintain established routines and procedures while practicing with competence, integrity, and sound judgment even in the absence of close supervision.
