The Speech and Language Pathologist directly reports to the Director, Itinerant Services, and is an itinerant service provider working in the CESA 6 school districts. The Speech and Language Pathologist will focus their practice on supporting students with disabilities in speech, language, social communication, and/or cognitive-communication in an educational setting. The Speech and Language Pathologist is guided by best practices and codes of ethics that are outlined by their professional organizations.
The Speech and Language Pathologist is a member of the school’s IEP team who evaluates students, communicates the results with the IEP team, and works collaboratively to determine whether the student meets criteria for a disability in the area of speech and/or language and, if so, appropriate and individualized goals. The Speech and Language Pathologist provides the appropriate programs and services to support the student’s growth while documenting and communicating progress to parents and the IEP team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Provide case management to students.
● Consult and collaborate with school staff and families in regards to students’ speech and language deficits.
● Conduct initial screenings as well as comprehensive evaluations in the area of speech and language to determine students’ need for services or need of dismissal from services.
● Participate in the IEP process in developing present levels of performance, goals and objectives, and treatment recommendations for students qualifying for speech therapy services.
● Provide speech therapy sessions through the use of current best practices based on prescribed services in the IEP.
● Maintain all documentation required by the district and ASHA’s code of ethics including, but not limited to, daily notes, monthly summaries, and annual IEPs.
● Work with students exhibiting the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation, fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing.
● Address personal, social/emotional, academic, and vocational needs that have an impact on attainment of educational goals.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
● Work in partnership with others to meet students' needs.
● Provide direction in defining the role and responsibilities of the Speech and Language Pathologist and in ensuring delivery of appropriate services to students.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Education and Licensure:
● Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
● Clinical experience of 400 hours with 100 of the hours in a school setting.
● Hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
● Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification in Speech Language Pathology (Code 1820).
● Current Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services license in Speech-Language Pathology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Ability to work from multiple settings, including varied agency, school or work-related sites.
● Position may require extended hours including evenings and weekends, travel to multiple work sites and occasional out-of-town travel.
● Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
● Traveling between and working in multiple schools and school districts or a home office (where equipment, files, etc. is stored).
