Position Title: Substitute School Teacher Reports To: Principal Qualifications: 1. Associate Degree required. Bachelor’s degree in teaching is preferred. 2. Certificate in teaching or substitute teaching. 3. Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions. 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Supervises: N/A Job Goal: To create a classroom environment that supports the academic and social growth of each student; follow the board-approved district curriculum and develop positive relationships with students, parents, and peers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher. 2. Following procedures and achieving lesson goals. 3. Assigning and explaining homework. 4. Overseeing students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria. 5. Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times. 6. Taking attendance and documenting daily notes. 7. Ensuring the classroom and workstations are kept clean and orderly. 8. Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities. 9. Compiling a report for the teacher for when they return. 10. Other Duties as Assigned. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversations and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to sit, stand, and walk at regular intervals throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described above and within the job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
