DESCRIPTION
The East Troy Community School District has a 1.0 FTE High School School-Counselor position available beginning in the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate will possess strong background, knowledge, skills and attitudes that support Personalized Learning Environments by demonstrating the following:
● Outstanding ability to implement counseling curriculum that reflects Wisconsin’s Comprehensive School Counseling model and also familiarity/experience with student/parent planning conferencing.
● Very strong background and understanding of the Wisconsin School Counselor Standards and evidence of implementing Academic and Career Planning (ACP) in a school setting.
● Strong knowledge and experience with Wisconsin’s Career Clusters and Pathways and their role in helping students make appropriate course selections.
● Excellent written and oral communication.
● Experience creating a master schedule for the high school and knowledge of the scheduling process.
● Manage test coordination and testing accommodations at the high school including Aspire, ACT, and Forward exam.
● Background in working with students to help them transition into the appropriate post-secondary settings.
● Background and experience with changing educational needs and finding creative solutions to meet the needs of students.
● Strong collaborative skills to work as a positive member of the district pupil services team as well as other building and district committees.
● Understanding the importance of professional growth and development toward meeting all students’ needs and district expectations that strongly support the emphasis on student overall learning.
● Supporting and developing practices reflective of the district’s policy on Personalization.
● Ability to work cooperatively in a Professional Learning Community to promote continued student growth.
● Ability to design plans/activities through the use of content knowledge, knowledge of appropriate State Standards, an understanding of student needs, and available resources.
● Ability to analyze assessment results and use data to drive instruction and learning
● Ability to incorporate RtI and PBIS into the culture and learning environment
Intervention Supports
● Exceptional leadership skills to assist Building Consultation Team (BCT) and IEP teams in development and implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies to improve student classroom performance
● Comprehensive skills to facilitate and assist BCT and IEP teams in the interpretation of individual, district, and state assessment data to assist with intervention planning and implementation at the individual, group and district level
● Assist in the development, design and implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans for individuals, small groups or classrooms.
● Experience and skills in providing counseling and direct instruction with individuals and small groups of students requiring counseling services to improve social, emotional and/or behavioral functioning.
● Experience and skills in providing individual consultation services and collaboration with parents, teachers, administrators, and community professionals.
● Interest and experience in promoting healthy school climate including aspects such as trauma informed care, collaborative problem solving and restorative practices.
● Strong leadership skills to facilitate the design and delivery of curricula to assist students in the development of effective behaviors such as self-regulation, self-monitoring, planning/organization, empathy and healthy decision making.
Additional Skills
● Flexibility and creativity to assist staff in creating district, school and classroom environments that support district mission, vision, values and goals.
● Strong background and skills in legal implications and Section 504 in order to serve as case manager for students with 504 plans/needs.
● Interest and skills to actively serve on building level Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Teams.
● Ability to assist and consult with school staff to meet mandated reporting requirements.
● Commitment to professional growth and development in order to meet student needs through active participation to achieve personal and professional goals as well as ability to facilitate growth activities for other district staff of current evidence based practices for student success.
● Strong organizational and written language skills in order to effectively communicate with parents, students and staff in a timely fashion.
● Adhere to the highest professional ethical standards.
