Essential Functions: - An unyielding belief that with appropriate support, coupled with high expectations that all students can significantly improve their academic skills and can develop prosocial and culturally normative behaviors that will enable them to succeed at school and beyond. - Modifying the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. The preferred candidate will be expected to conduct demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an effective level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed. - Collaborate with other teachers to get a clear picture of our current practices, identify service delivery expectations / goals, select teaching strategies to meet the goals, monitor progress and problem solve until the goals are met. - Research and provide information, guidance and coaching regarding a range of effective and innovative mathematical practices such as: individual discussions (formal and informal), coaching sessions, demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion / analysis, study groups, staff meetings and professional development. - Develop sound academic plans for students with spec to establish manageable tools to ensure the development of programming to meet those needs. - Providing one-on-one and small group instruction to students by “pushing in” through inclusive practices to meet goals by addressing the behavioral and academic needs. - An interest in using technology and blended learning. While supporting students the teacher will need to be able to construct flexible, digital, and interactive learning experiences that are useful in a variety of delivery modes. - Maintaining accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on student progress and activities. Required standard minimum skills and qualifications: - Valid teaching license with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction - Experience with and a commitment to working with students with significant academic and socio-emotional challenges and supporting them to achieve at high levels. - Supporting other teachers both formally and informally with strategies and tools to help them meet the wide-ranging needs of all students. The preferred candidate will serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students. - Experience and background in co-teaching / co-planning. - Evidence of ability to collaborate with others; having aspirations for a better world with the energy to make it come true. Preferred skills and qualifications: - A valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license in 1801, 1810, 1811 or 1830 AND 1088 - Middle/High School Level Education. - Understanding the application of principles in Universal Design for Learning. - Experience and background in literacy support. **Please note: Vel R Phillips is a Milwaukee County owned facility and any Wauwatosa School District staff must adhere to the county mandates regarding COVID-19. Any staff members wishing to teach at Vel R. Phillips MUST be fully vaccinated. (This is not a requirement for Wauwatosa School District but we must adhere to the county mandate for this building only).
