The Unified School District of Antigo is seeking a full time Library Media Specialist to support our High School, Middle School, and Elementary Schools. The primary goal of the library media specialist shall be to provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; provide instruction which fosters competence and interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas through technology; and to work with teachers to design strategies on various platforms to meet the needs of individual students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the essential job elements. The library media specialist shall provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure the library media plan is an integral part of the instructional program of the District. The library media specialist shall support all media centers in the district including: regular visits, upkeep of book collection, and maintenance of other library resources. The library media specialist shall create and maintain an inviting, attractive physical environment within the library media center and in relation to all the physical elements of the program. The library media specialist shall provide flexible access to the library media center within the school day to meet the needs of individuals, small groups and large groups for research, browsing, recreational reading, viewing, and listening. The library media specialist shall select the most advanced resources and equipment, both traditional and electronic, that are appropriate for accessing and producing information related to students’ and teachers’ learning needs. The library media specialist shall maintain a collection that is diverse in format and content to support the learning needs of students with a wide spectrum of abilities, backgrounds, socioeconomic status, race, religion, gender, sexual identity, and learning styles. The library media specialist shall build and maintain expertise in a wide range of information, resources, and technology free of bias. The library media specialist shall inform teachers and students of new materials, equipment, and services that meet their informational needs through district communications on a regular basis. The library media specialist shall teach each and every student the search strategies needed to sort through the vast array of information available via print and electronic sources. The library media specialist shall assist students and teachers in identifying, locating and evaluating information housed within the library media center and/or the community library. The library media specialist shall collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate information literacy competencies throughout the teaching and learning process in alignment with district curricular materials. The library media specialist shall collaborate with teachers to encourage students to become information literate, independent learners, and socially responsible in their use of information and information technology. The library media specialist shall assist in supervision of students during the work day. The library media specialist shall oversee and support the library clerks in their job responsibilities, professional development, and job related tasks. The library media specialist shall write, adjust and implement library media / technology plan. The library media specialist shall oversee and allocate budget using Common School Funds and other funding sources as dedicated by the district budget. The library media specialist shall oversee district wide Technology Committee and hold regularly scheduled meetings to implement, update and streamline processes of and related to, the Technology Plan. The library media specialist shall complete all other duties as assigned.
