The Wauwatosa School District is seeking a part-time (.5) Elementary Library Assistant for Madison Elementary School. Position Title: Elementary Library Assistant Department/Location: Madison Elementary School Job Classification: Educational Assistant (Non-Exempt) Reports to: School Principal Supervises: N.A. Position Summary: The Library Educational Assistant (JK - 5) oversees the day-to-day operations of the elementary library media centers. Anticipated Start Date: August 22, 2022 Anticipated Pay Rate: The beginning rate for the assignment is as follows: - Without any certification $14.80 - With DPI teacher certification $18.34 Essential Job Functions: Assists students and staff in the circulation of library materials, use of the online catalog, and use of online database resources Maintains an organized and up-to-date catalog and circulation system Keeps library media center organized, clean, neat, and welcoming to visitors. Shelves, straightens and shelf-reads library materials Pulls, mends, discards, and replaces library materials as appropriate Prints and sends overdue notifications Collects fines for lost or damaged books Processes new library materials received for circulation Completes regular inventories Trains volunteers and staff in circulation procedures Prepares bulletin boards, displays, and related items Arranges for inter-library loans and maintains relevant records and notifications Assists in preparing bibliographies and thematic book collections for teachers Assists teachers in the instruction of information-retrieving skills from District's computerized library system Coordinates events such as book fairs and other activities that encourage and motivate students to read Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District Performs other duties as may be required Essential Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight­-hour day Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to ten pounds without assistance in an indoor setting Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc. Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
Bachelor’s degree Elementary teaching license through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Word processing skills and familiarity with computer databases Knowledge of various software programs at a beginner’s level of proficiency Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and give oral and written instructions Excellent organizational skills Strong degree of self-direction and motivation Ability to maintain records and reports in an organized and orderly manner Basic math skills, including an ability to perform simple arithmetic Ability to work effectively in a team environment Basic understanding of library organization Excellent communication skills Interest in working with students and staff in an education setting Knowledge of children's literature Experience working with children’s literature in a library setting (preferred)
