Whitewater High School is seeking a full-time Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher at the high school level. A successful candidate is student-centered and works with a team to provide a continuum of services to students, with an emphasis on family engagement and inclusive practices. Whitewater High School has approximately 600 students and offerings similar to schools of a much larger size. We take great pride in being a Triple- A school by giving our students the opportunity to explore academic, athletic, and art offerings in a smaller and much more personalized setting than a high school of 1000+ students. In addition, our vast curriculum allows students to prepare themselves for post-secondary education or the world of work by learning and using 21st century skills. Whitewater is a vibrant, diverse community with a growing population of multilingual families. Preference will be given to candidates who are multilingual. Whitewater Unified School District has elements of rural and suburban communities. The City of Whitewater has a population of approximately 14,500. Whitewater is located in southern Wisconsin, approximately 45 miles west of Milwaukee, 45 miles east of Madison, and 100 miles northwest of Chicago. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with an enrollment of over 10,500 students, offers residents a variety of cultural and educational opportunities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver unit plans, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that facilitate active learning within a co-taught environment. • Create meaningful and developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on approved curriculum, academic standards and a student's IEP. • Build positive relationships with students and parents/guardians, and utilize collaboration skills to work with other teachers, service providers, and paraprofessionals. • Create a respectful, safe, and positive student-centered learning environment. • Develop, implement, and update IEPs in collaboration with an IEP Team. • Align IEP goals with disability-related needs and services while maintaining high expectations and promoting independence. • Act in a professional, collaborative manner and engage in continual growth through professional learning.
