Head Coach Job Description

Demonstrate a leadership style that communicates effectively with parents, players, and assistant coaches
Follows all WIAA and District policies, practices, and procedures
Enjoy working with your students
Program Responsibilities
Has full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of the program district wide
Is in charge of assigning all duties of assistant coaches working under his/her supervision
Is responsible for the general upkeep and protection of supplies and equipment under the jurisdiction of the program
Reports periodically while the activity is in season to the Activities Director with regard to developments in the program
Is directly responsible for a complete inventory of any supplies and equipment used for the activity (to be completed at the end of each season).
Is responsible to submit recommendations for the purchase of equipment and supplies to the Activities Director at the end of each season.
Provides an evaluation of the program including assistants and improvements at the end of the season
Is responsible for providing records of participation and lettering to the Activities Director at the end of each season. Lettering requirements should be submitted to the Activities Director in advance of each season.
Has a shared responsibility for striving to build positive attitudes and developing good public relations in the school and community and promotes the sport
Plans and schedules a program of practices and meetings during the season
Conducting a preseason parent/student meeting to review program rules and expectations. Communicates support for all WIAA and department rules for clearance prior to participation
Makes recommendations to the Activities Director in matters of scheduling
Provides the Activities Director the program handbook prior to the start of the season
Provides the Activities Director a complete roster of the high school program, including uniform number. Informs the Activities Director if roster changes occur during the season. Provides direction to middle school coaches to provide the same roster information. The Activities Director shall be consulted before a student is dismissed from the program
Keeps informed of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, and reading in the field.
Completes required professional development prior to the start of the season
Reports all injuries using the defined method as directed by the Activities Director. Communicates with the athletic training staff as applicable and follows their direction on player injury and return to play procedures
Personnel Responsibilities
Teaches individual participants the skills necessary for improvement in the sport
Applies discipline in a firm and positive manner
Determines the strategies for the program to be used
Understand that he/she is continually on display and must exercise good judgment in portraying positive behavior. Be reminded of the fact that he/she is responsible for participants’ conduct during practice, competition, and while traveling. All programs will be expected to project a professional image
Ensures all participants are cleared to participate per the Activities Director
Ensures all coaches are cleared to perform coaching duties per the Activities Director
Provides participants with an evaluation at the end of the season, which outlines areas for improvement in the offseason.
Compensation Range: $4000-$5100 per season
Required Qualifications
Experience working with collegiate or high school student-athletes
Experience coaching collegiate or high school wrestling
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a head coach in wrestling
