Position Title: Healthroom/Clerical Assistant Department/Location: Lincoln Elementary School Job Classification: Educational Assistant (Non-Exempt) Reports to: Building Principal, Associate Principal Supervises: N.A. Position Summary: The Healthroom/Clerical Assistant performs general office work that assists with the smooth operation of the school. Anticipated Start Date: August 29, 2022 Anticipated Hours: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM -Assists with relevant medical and health room protocols (e.g., entering medical information into databases, tracking medical records, providing first aid or other health-related assistance to staff and students, maintaining accurate log of distribution of medicine, ensuring teachers have appropriate medications for students on field trips) (as needed) -May be required to perform hands-on medical routine procedures (clean intermittent catheterizations, ostomy maintenance, diabetic care including injecting insulin, and administering g-tube feeds). Will be trained and under the nurse's supervision. -Administers first aid to injured students and provides short-term care to enhance the comfort and safety of injured or ill students in accordance with school district policy and procedure, and as directed by the District Nurse. -Reviews, understands and implements assigned duties pertaining to individualized healthcare plans, delegated and under the direction of the district nurse. -Assists in the control of communicable diseases according to procedures. -Maintains confidentiality of information learned regarding students and their families. -Notifies District Nurse and building Principal of serious incidents and significant health problems. -Exhibits knowledge of job limitations and accepts supervision. -Assumes responsibility for maintaining a neat and orderly environment. -Follows district policy regarding infection-control measures. -Maintains appropriate certification in AED, CPR, and First Aid. -Processes student attendance -Types, word processes, and uses various software programs -Files and maintains office correspondence, records, charts, etc. -Maintains various site-based accounting ledgers/systems -Coordinates department purchasing and maintains stock level, storage, and utilization -Works with limited supervision and makes work priority decisions in accordance with established policies, practices, and regulations -Performs data gathering tasks and composes correspondence in accordance with standard policy -Handles inquiries from teachers, students, parents, and general public -Screens visitors and schedules appointments -Routes incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence to proper location/person -Operates copy machine and laminator properly and helps ensure it is properly maintained -Analyzes records and systems and proposes suggestions for improvement of office procedures, methods, and record keeping -Performs bookkeeping and budget work as needed -Performs administrative tasks in regard to testing (e.g. preparing teacher materials, printing testing tickets, preparing informational letters for parents) -Answers telephone and takes messages -Broadcasts announcements over public address systems (as needed) -Handles school newsletters, memos, agendas, and notifications to staff and families (as needed) -Helps coordinate field trips (logging them on master field trip calendar and in daily bulletin, copying and distributing approved forms) (as needed) -Assists with filling of vacancies (requesting substitutes via Aesop/Absence Management, contacting substitutes, etc.) (as needed) -Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings -Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District -Coordinates building calendars with recreation department and other building requests -Assists with dismissal procedures -Acts as a member of the building crisis team
-Previous healthcare experience preferred. High school graduate or equivalent is required. -Current CPR Certification is preferred (or ability to gain such certification) -Current Red Cross First Aid is preferred (or the ability to gain such certification) -Interest in working with children/adolescents -Good oral and written communication skills -Ability to react quickly, calmly, and decisively in a crisis -Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality -Ability to work with diverse groups of adults and children -Word processing skills and familiarity with computer databases -Knowledge of various software programs at a moderate level of proficiency -Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and give oral and written instructions -Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, at a level normally associated with the completion of a high school degree, or equivalent training -Ability to work with limited daily supervision and make accurate, rapid, independent decisions regarding normal planning and scheduling of own clerical work schedules -Ability to assess a variety of concrete or abstract matters or situations and to make decisions based on that assessment -Excellent organizational skills -High level of maturity -Strong degree of self-direction and motivation -Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others -Ability to maintain records and reports in an organized and orderly manner -Basic math skills, including an ability to perform simple arithmetic -Ability to create work, methods, or services that require a moderate degree of originality to create a variation of existing documents using knowledge of a discipline -Ability to work effectively in a team environment -Ability to multitask and meet deadlines -Knowledge of office terminology and school administration policies, practices, and procedures (preferred) Essential Physical/Mental Requirements: -Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight­-hour day -Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to thirty pounds without assistance in an indoor setting -Ability to get down on and up off of the floor independently -Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance -Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building -Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate medical equipment (insulin pen, blood glucose monitor, catheter, etc), computer keyboard, and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc. -Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone -Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm -Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy -Ability to maintain patience and respect for others, even when in high-stress situations
