Special Education Educational Assistant positions are available! We are seeking qualified candidates to support students in our early childhood, elementary, or jr/sr high school building. As a special education EA you will be providing instructional (academic, behavioral) and clerical support for the special education teacher. Under the direction of the teacher you will work with students individually or in small groups. Highly qualified candidates will have a high interest in working with children with academic and behavioral challenges, background and experience working in alternative school settings, and supporting students with special education needs. A special education EA will work in many settings throughout the school. Each will interact with many staff members throughout the day.
Applicants should possess the following minimum qualifications: 1. A high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Ability to work effectively with individual students or small groups of students in a highly structured educational setting. 3. Ability to easily adapt to the changes and demands throughout the work day. 4. Ability to listen to and follow the directions of the classroom teacher. 5. Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, superiors and co-workers. 6. Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using written and oral communication techniques. 7. Ability to organize, record, and maintain student attendance records and other student records as assigned by the classroom teacher. 8. Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision. 9. Proficiency in basic use of computers including, but not limited to, e-mail and internet. 10. Willingness to be trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. 11. Willingness to be trained in medication administration. 12. Willingness to provide personal care assistance to meet student needs.
