The Wauwatosa School District is seeking an Educational Sign Language Interpreter for Wauwatosa Montessori School Summer School Program Position: Educational Sign Language Interpreter Wauwatosa Summer School - Montessori School (Grade 4) Anticipated Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Anticipated start date: June 20, 2022 Qualifications: - Associate degree or certification in sign language interpreting - Department of Public Instruction Educational Interpreter License code 020 or 884, or equivalent - Possession of a valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) report with a score of 3.3 or higher or valid certificate as a Sign Language Interpreter from the Registry of Interpreters for Deaf, Inc. - Experience working with D/deaf or hard of hearing students - Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and give oral and written instructions - Ability to work effectively in a team environment - Excellent communication skills - Experience with the needs of a diverse student population (preferred) - School-based interpreting experience (preferred) Essential Job Functions: - Interpret spoken material from teachers, classmates, and other school personnel into sign language for the understanding of the D/deaf or hard of hearing student(s) as well as interpret communication from the D/deaf or hard of hearing student(s) into spoken language for hearing individuals as needed. - Collaborate and consult with other IEP service providers and general education staff regarding student(s) needs and progress and assisting in charting the progress as requested. - Review and study curriculum material in order to assist the D/deaf student(s) in their comprehension of school material. - Provide interpreting services for D/deaf or hard of hearing student(s) during school-sponsored activities as requested. - Supports an inclusive educational environment for all students - Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings - Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District - Performs other duties as may be assigned Essential Physical/Mental Requirements: - Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight­-hour day - Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to thirty pounds without assistance in an indoor setting - Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance - Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building - Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc. - Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone - Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm - Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
