The Wauwatosa School District is seeking a full-time Director of Finance. Position Title: Director of Finance Department/Location: Department of Business Services Job Classification: Selected (Exempt) Reports to: Chief Financial and Operations Officer Supervises: Accounting/Payroll Specialist Position Summary: The Director of Finance maintains the District’s chart of accounts, maintains District debt service schedules, and balances the general ledger. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field CPA or DPI #08 Business Manager License preferred but not required Mastered knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; GASB requirements, and Wisconsin Uniform Financial Accounting Requirements Three years of progressively responsible experience in an educational or public administration setting Experience with or knowledge of educational institutions (preferred) Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a positive attitude ; assertive and outgoing with a confident personality Ability to learn and use system technology Ability to initiate, prioritize and implement responsibilities without direction Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of District, school, and student information Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, organize, plan and balance multiple priorities Ability to work effectively, collaboratively and positively with staff, administrators, parents and the public Ability to use a positive, caring, supportive approach while working with a variety of people Ability to establish and maintain exemplary relationships by using appropriate interpersonal skills Ability to maintain self-control and handle complaints and requests for information in an effective, positive and efficient manner Ability to exercise independent judgment Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Ability to design, utilize, and analyze complex financial systems Understanding of accounting procedures, auditing, and financial statements Strong spreadsheet (Excel), presentation and database software skills Ability to function as a team player (leader, coordinator, liaison, team member) Essential Job Functions: Supervises District payroll / accounts payable functions and personnel Completes payroll-related tax forms (federal and state) and Wisconsin Retirement System forms and transfers appropriate cash for timely payment of these liabilities Maintains District accounting system (all funds) and prepares/completes all necessary journal entries Supervise the accounting functions of the District, including handling all funds and reporting procedures Prepares financial reports reports to DPI and other agencies as required by State and Federal agencies Prepare reports for the proper staff officials concerning the status of their budgetary accounts. Maintain a continuous internal control audit program Supervise the accounts receivable functions, the deposits of District funds and the reconciliation of all bank accounts maintained by the District Respond to various surveys and requests from governmental agencies and financial institutions with regard to financial data. Prepares tuition reimbursement reports Coordinates District grants and reimbursements Coordinates District’s financial audit with CFO Maintains District chart of accounts in compliance with WUFAR Maintains District debt payment schedules and transfers appropriate funds to agencies Assists with the preparation of the District annual budget reports Assists CFO with the collection of District budget information Assists CFO in presenting budget information to administration, Board, and community Assists ACFO in determining long-range plans for utilization of District information services equipment and software Balances District bank reconciliations to general ledger cash balance Prepares monthly cash flow analysis and assists the in determining the District's annual cash requirements Calculate and issue financials and operating metrics Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts Monitor and communicate with all sites regarding site based budgeting procedures and allocations. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to administration Provide financial analyses and technical assistance, in particular for personnel costs and budget issues. Oversee all Credit Card transactions Maintains and supervises District deferred compensation programs including 403(b) and Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program
