Supervises: School Counselors, School Social Workers, Nurses, Academic and Career Planning Coordinator, Elementary Behavior Specialists
Position Summary: The Director of Student Success will serve as a resource for all Social-Emotional Learning initiatives in the school district. The Director of Student Success will provide leadership and direction to school counselors, school nurses and school social workers in their service delivery to students and their families. The Director of Student Success shall serve as a thought partner for school personnel seeking counsel and direction in constructing strategies to address student non-compliant behaviors that adversely affect the learning environment for all children. The Director of Student Success is a restorative justice leader for the District, constantly exploring new and innovative methods to reach students who have not positively incorporated themselves in the school community. This thought leader will provide just-in-time advice and strategies to classroom teachers, principals and families who have expressed concern that the District is often delayed and void of resources and recommendations for certain students.
Qualifications:
Certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in one of the following areas:
7054- School Counselor
7050 - School Social Worker
7062 - School Psychologist
An ability to analyze and succinctly recommend modifications to classroom management procedures.
Past experience in re-directing student expectations for positive student behavior.
Past success in re-calibrating educators expectations of and for students who have been non-compliant and disrespectful in the past.
Demonstrated ability in building resilience and professional collective efficacy in staff and faculty who have experienced difficult student behavior situations.
A systems thinker who has experience in re-directing and providing counsel to school leaders in how to effectively and positively construct a school climate that is culturally responsive, grounded in restorative justice and willing to be vulnerable when working with perceived difficult students and/or families. This leader will have ample strategies and tools that can be quickly shared with principals to improve their school climate.
Past demonstration of extraordinary problem solving skills.
Essential Job Duties
District leader in establishing the Disciplinary/School Climate MLSS system.
District leader in establishing a District wide PBIS system.
District leader in the management of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); ensuring that the plans are consistently monitored for progress.
In conjunction with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, co-chair the District’s Discipline Disproportionality Committee. The Committee will consist of internal and external stakeholders responsible for the monitoring of the District’s disciplinary procedures, review of District data related to disciplinary referrals, analysis and evaluation of strategies being implemented to curb the disproportionate referrals of certain student groups and evaluation of the effectiveness of the MLSS and PBIS systems in the District. The District’s Discipline Disproportionality Committee shall report to the Board of Education on a tri-annual basis, providing statistical updates on progress or factors affecting the effective implementation of progress.
District leader in implementing restorative justice professional development for all staff.
In conjunction with the District’s Safety and Security Coordinator, the Director of Student Success will provide oversight to the District’s SRO partnership with the Wauwatosa Police Department.
Serves as the facilitator of administrative hearings to determine if a behavior infraction will be recommended for expulsion before the Board of Education.
Serves as the District leader in observing students and student behavior from an asset-based approach while dismantling a deficit-approach across the District.
Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
