The Verona Area School District is looking for a strong equity-centered instructional leader, cultural changer and community builder to join our progressive school district as of July 1, 2022 as the Principal of Savanna Oaks Middle School. We believe that each student should have access to the resources and educational rigor they need, at the right moment in their education, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, ability, language, family background, or family income. Our success, fostered and supported through the Principalship, is built on a foundation of equity, mutual respect, cultural responsiveness, the pursuit of excellence, and shared responsibility at school, at home, and in the community. The Verona Area School District (VASD) is a PreK – 12 public school district of approximately 5,800 students located near Madison, WI. VASD is a growing school district with 10 schools including three charter schools and a two-way immersion Spanish program. Our incredible student body is 37% non-white, 29% receive free or reduced lunches, 14% percentage are English Learners and 8% receive special education services. Our staff is 900 strong between all positions including full and part time. The school district is comprised of 10 buildings including a new state of the art, 600,000 square foot high school on a 160-acre campus that opened in September of 2020. We have a total of 1.5M square feet under roof on nearly 325 total acres. Savanna Oaks Middle school is a 6-8 attendance area school located within the City of Fitchburg, WI and a part of the Verona Area School District. There are many reasons why Savanna Oaks is an incredible school. One of those reasons is the diversity of the students that call Savanna Oaks their school. Of the almost 500 students who attend Savanna Oaks, 37% are students of color, 15% are students who are linguistically diverse, 10% are students with special needs and 32% are students whose families receive assistance with meal costs. Savanna Oaks serves students from geographically separated areas of our District drawing from parts of nearby neighborhoods as well from the City of Verona, Fitchburg and other rural areas. The dedicated, well-trained and hard-working staff is a mix of highly experienced and those new to the profession who are eager to work collaboratively with each other and their next principal. Salary, Benefits, Length of Contract: This position works a 260-day (12 month) contract with starting compensation that is negotiable but will be no less than $128,853 with an exceptional benefits package.
