Position Summary: Reporting to the Principal, the Academic Resource Specialist, Multi-Cultural Students and Families provides student support, instructional leadership, and effective management to ensure that Catholic Memorial High School is serving the needs of students, faculty, and parents who come from culturally diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate for the Academic Resource Specialist, Multi-Cultural Students and Families will display a willingness to promote Catholic ideals and culture, have experience within an independent or Catholic School setting, demonstrate experience and expertise with student supervision, program management, and working with students and parents. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience as well as a developmental sensitivity and understanding of adolescence. This position runs on a fiscal year basis starting as early as January 2022. Essential Responsibilities & Accountability: Leadership Promotes school mission and values. Serves as a member of the CMH Leadership Group. Ensures multi-cultural students understand school rules and policies. Supports and encourages students to become responsible citizens and leaders within the school and the broader community and engage in CMH extracurricular activities. Collaborates with school administration regarding multi-cultural student needs and discipline matters. Works collaboratively with the Advancement Department for recruitment and transition of transfer students. Works collaboratively with Director of Advancement and Communications Manager to manage public facing news and information. Works collaboratively with the Athletic Director with student athlete eligibility. Helps build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in school religious and service activities. Represents the school at events during and after school, some evenings, and weekends. Student Support Helps identify learning gaps and works with faculty to develop strategies to close those gaps and ensure student academic progress and success. Work with students daily to maintain completion of assignment and projects. Support students on formative and summative assessments. Develops individual support plan of students when needed. Provides leadership to the Student Services Team, which meets twice a quarter to discuss multi-cultural students, trends in courses or with teachers and specific strategies to address those needs. Faculty Support Collaborate with other academic resource specialists in the Academic Resource Center as well as, faculty to ensure the academic success of students. Maintains a caseload of students and actively guides them through success in and out of the classroom. Communication with faculty on missing work and needs of students. Re-format or provide different activities in partnership with faculty to support learning in the classroom. Family Support Provides communication and support of multi-cultural student progress to the family and faculty. Attend parent events such as open house, parent preview, registration night, and parent teachers conferences to aid in any language or cultural gaps. Support families who are from diverse backgrounds and provide communication between the family and school.
-Administrative certification or evidence of working toward the certification and 3+ years’ experience in high school environment and progressive leadership responsibilities. -Department of Public Instruction certification as a teacher or principal. -Exemplifies and role models the Catholic mission of the school. -Effective oral and written communication skills. -Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents in developing solutions to conflicts. -High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy; the ability to handle families with grace is a must. -Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Must be able to discern among competing priorities. -Positive, creative, solution-oriented approach. -Working knowledge of the software used for the student database. -Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills. -Availability to work after school hours and special events as needed. -Bilingual Spanish a plus
