Educational Sign Language Interpreter Position Type: Part-Time 2.67 hours/day - 13.35 hours per week , 8:35 am to 11:15 am Position Summary: The Educational Interpreter interprets for deaf/hard of hearing students within regular and special education environments. Primary Expectations: 1. Projects a positive attitude and image to students, staff, and the public. 2. Possesses and demonstrates positive interpersonal communication skills. 3. Pursues continuous professional improvement. 4. Maintains confidentiality regarding internal matters of the school district and complies with legal confidentiality requirements. 5. Complies with school district rules, regulations, policies, procedures, practices, and administrative guidelines. 6. Possesses strong organizational and time management skills. 7. Agrees to and abides by the collective commitments of each school he/she serves. 8. Is a champion for students, believing all students can and will succeed. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Works directly with deaf/hard of hearing children in interpreting instructions provided by the teacher. 2. Informally evaluates the capability of deaf/hard of hearing students to understand instructions provided and assist in reinstruction when necessary. 3. Provides information to the teacher on how well the student is understanding the instructions presented. 4. Attends staff meetings and training sessions. 5. Abides by and supports the IEP document and related recommendations.
Qualifications: 1. Possesses a valid Interpreter License through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 2. Possesses a valid driver's license. 3. Possesses knowledge and expertise as an interpreter. 5. Ability to interpret verbal communications to deaf/hard of hearing children. 6. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff, other agencies, and the public.
