Head of School Job Description

Position Overview

The Head of School at New Leaf Prep Academy is the educational and administrative leader, embodying our mission to provide authentic Montessori education within a public charter framework. The ideal candidate will balance Montessori philosophy with charter school requirements while fostering a community of students, staff, and families. The Head of School will play a pivotal role in demonstrating how Montessori education can thrive within a charter school framework.

Educational Leadership

  • Guide the implementation of an authentic Montessori curriculum aligned with charter requirements and state standards

  • Ensure fidelity to Montessori principles while meeting accountability measures

  • Support teachers in creating prepared environments that foster independence, creativity, and academic excellence

  • Oversee assessment practices that honor both Montessori development and charter accountability

Administrative Management

  • Develop and manage the school budget and resources

  • Oversee compliance with charter authorizer requirements and state regulations

  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of qualified Montessori staff

  • Implement effective enrollment strategies to maintain optimal student numbers

  • Collaborate with the board of directors to develop strategic plans and policies

Community Building

  • Cultivate strong relationships with families, emphasizing Montessori education's unique approach

  • Develop partnerships with local organizations and businesses

  • Represent the school to the broader community and charter stakeholders

  • Foster a school culture that embodies peace education, respect, and global citizenship

Professional Development

  • Schedule ongoing Montessori professional growth for all staff

  • Support teachers in balancing Montessori implementation with charter requirements

  • Create mentorship programs for new teachers

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, educational leadership, or related field

  • Montessori certification and substantial experience in Montessori environments

  • Proven leadership experience in education, preferably in charter or independent schools

  • Understanding of charter school operations, governance, and accountability

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Strong communication skills with diverse stakeholders

  • Experience with school budgeting and resource allocation
